Primary focus will be on awareness of biases and how these biases impact everyday interactions people have with one another. \nParticipants will: \n\ndefine terms that are often mis-used when communicating about racial injustice\nengage in discussion and activities on how implicit bias impacts us as individuals\nunderstand that intent and impact are not the same and may have different results\n\nRegister for this event below. \nAbout Our Speaker:\n \nDr. Cheree Meeks is the Assistant Dean for Programs\, Diversity & Inclusion in the Honors College at the University of Arizona. She leads the Honors College efforts and initiatives to create and foster a safe\, welcoming\, and inclusive environment in the college. This includes assessment to guide intentional development of programs and experiences to address recruitment\, access\, support\, and retention of underrepresented students\, faculty\, and staff. Dr. Meeks incorporates equity and inclusion-based student affairs practice to review policies\, procedures\, and practices that contribute to a culture of inclusion.  \nOriginally from Waterloo\, Iowa\, Dr. Meeks earned a BA in Political Science and MA in Student Development and Postsecondary Education from The University of Iowa. She completed a doctorate in Higher Education and Organizational Change in 2016 from Benedictine University. Dr. Meeks’ research explores the experiences of African American mothers working in student affairs\, with a special focus on race and gender as intersecting identities.
