A graduate of Arizona State University\, Travis has spent the last four years as the Director of Development at the Southern Arizona AIDS Foundation and the previous three years as the Associate Director of Advancement at San Miguel High School. When they are not building relationships both inside and outside of work\, you can often find Travis volunteering for various causes around town\, including sitting on the boards for both the Association of Fundraising Professionals and Children’s Museum Tucson │ Oro Valley. \nAlba Rojas-Sukkar\, CFRE is the Chief Development Officer at the Arizona Oncology Foundation and has been in the fundraising business for over 27 years. Alba has worked for and raised much-needed funds for organizations such as the Boys and Girls Clubs\, American Cancer Society\, Tucson Museum of Art\, and had her own consulting company for eight years. \nShe currently runs the Arizona Oncology Foundation\, and fundraises to provide programs and services to help those going through cancer. When she is not fundraising\, Alba spends her time helping other organizations. She is an Ambassador Council Member of the Arizona Sand’s Club at the University of Arizona\, and a member of Angel Charity for Children\, and The Association of Fundraising Professionals. A former attorney\, Gugulethu is a human rights advocate with expertise in press freedom. She was the founding Executive Director of Media Defence\, a London-based legal aid organization dedicated to defending media freedom worldwide. \nGugulethu grew up in Zimbabwe\, from which she emigrated to the United Kingdom in 2004 after serving as In-House Counsel to Associated Newspapers of Zimbabwe\, then publisher of Zimbabwe’s sole independent daily newspaper. \nGugulethu has served on multiple boards of directors; she currently serves on the board of the Council of American Jewish Museums and Child & Family Resources. \nHer writing has been published in The Guardian\, The Independent\, New Statesman magazine and other publications. Gugulethu’s January 2021 appointment to the Jewish History Museum is featured as the cover story of the current (March-April) issue of Arizona Jewish Life magazine. \nGugulethu earned a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Zimbabwe and a Bachelor of Civil Law from the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom. She spent a year studying design at Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design in 2017. English is the third of multiple languages that Gugulethu speaks. SUMMARY:IDEA Committee's Arizona Boards and Commissions Meeting
DESCRIPTION:The IDEA Committee as part of the AFP Southern Arizona chapter has taken on a new initiative to make Arizona Boards and Commissions much more accessible to people of color. There are currently 220 active boards and commissions and each of them allow for “public members” who can be anyone from the community. By making these seats more accessible to people of color\, we are diversifying the voices in the room where decisions are being made about our communities and issues that we care about. Barry Wong\, the Executive Director of the Governor’s Office of Equal Opportunity will be attending the December 1st IDEA Committee meeting to explain this application process and answer any questions. This meeting is open to the public\, you do not need to be an AFP member or fundraiser to attend. We encourage not just people of color to attend\, but allies who want to better understand this process so they can share with people of color who might be interested in these opportunities. SUMMARY:Working in a post COVID world
DESCRIPTION:Please join us for a presentation from E. Liane Hernandez of the YWCA of Southern Arizona and Anna Harper-Guerrero from Emerge! Center Against Domestic Abuse. \n2020 has shown us the myriad ways that communities and our nation have not prepared to meet significant social challenges around health disparities\, economic inequities\, systemic violence perpetrated against specific populations\, and the systems undergirding these inequities. These times have also shown our sector how nimble we can be together.  Amid a global pandemic and political unrest and profound social reckoning\, organizations have had to pivot programming\, fundraising\, planning\, and operations to meet our staff and communities’ needs in many ways\, including collective action. \nWe will offer some notes from the field from two local organizations on priorities and ways of working in a post COVID world. This session will be a time for reflection and sharing about our roles as nonprofit professionals and community members\, focusing on the importance of leveraging our influence to center equity and systems change in our collective work. \n  \nE. Liane Hernandez is the Director of the Women’s Leadership and Wellness Center (WLWC) of the YWCA Southern Arizona in Tucson\, AZ. In her capacity at the YWCA\, she and her team provide workforce development and empowerment workshops\, events around justice\, sustainability\, feminism and advocacy\, as well co-producing inclusion trainings. \nShe is a convener and works to create space for individuals and organizations to do the work of inclusive community building. Trained as an art historian\, chef and cultural anthropologist she is a student of the questions of what community is\, who gets to participate\, and how. \nA member of the Tucson nonprofit arts community for many years\, she has served as staff as well as on boards\, committees\, grant review panels and was a founder of Raices Taller 222. She currently sits on the Bond Oversight Commission and is a member of the Tucson Meet Yourself Festival as the City of Gastronomy Culture Kitchen Coordinator. Formerly\, Liane was a member of the Tucson Voices Op Ed Project 2016\, and the Latino Graduate Training Seminar on Qualitative Methodology at the Smithsonian Institute. She was recognized as the Adelita Del Año by Las Adelitas PAC in 2015. \nA native of Arizona\, she lives in her beloved city of Tucson\, Arizona with her partner\, Peter\, and their two dogs. \n  \nAnna Harper-Guerrero\, LMSW\, is Executive Vice President & Chief Strategy Officer at Emerge! Center Against Domestic Abuse in Tucson and is a Faculty Associate at the Arizona State University School of Social Work in Tucson.  Prior to joining the Emerge! team\, Anna was a Special Staff Assistant to Pima County Board of Supervisors Chairman Richard Elías.  Prior to her work with Chairman Elías\, Anna served as Volunteer Coordinator and then Crisis Services Director at the Southern Arizona Center Against Sexual Assault.  Anna has also worked as a staff member or intern for several other entities\, including with the Pima County Community Services Department\, the Arizona Coalition Against Domestic Violence\, Empact Suicide Prevention Services\, Cholla Magnet High School\, and Aviva Children’s Services.  Her past volunteer work includes co-chairing the Pima County Crime Victim Compensation Board\, serving as a Commissioner with the Pima County/Tucson Women’s Commission\, and she is a past board member of Skrappy’s Youth Program.She has been in the field of social work for 18 years and has extensive clinical and program development experience in domestic abuse and sexual assault services. Our June 12th meeting will also be held virtually. \nFriday\, June 12th 7:30-9:00 A.M.\nMark your calendars\, and we’ll follow up with a Zoom link in the days before the meeting. \nJoin us to learn practical ways to increase your online presence and implement effective donor engagement and stewardship through social media\, email marketing\, and website optimization.  CFSA’s marketing team\, Tamara McKinney and Arielle Sullivan\, will share their process for developing\, implementing\, and evaluating a donor-focused digital marketing strategy. \nPlease take a couple of minutes to fill out this survey to help Tamara and Arielle personalize the presentation for our group. \nA Tucson native\, Tamara has more than 15 years of experience in nonprofit communications\, fund development\, operations\, and evaluation.  Prior to joining CFSA as Director of Marketing + Communications\, she was the executive director of a local nonprofit focused on health and food insecurity.  Tamara received her undergraduate degree from the University of Arizona and her MBA from the University of Illinois.  She is the proud mom of two amazing young women and enjoys reading mystery novels\, playing pinball with her husband\, and gardening with native plants to keep her bees and hummingbirds happy. \nArielle Sullivan joined the CFSA team in March 2019 after finding herself uninspired in the travel industry and looking for work that more closely aligned with her personal values. She knew from studying business at Western Carolina University there was a way to do well by doing good. She is inspired daily by the Southern Arizona nonprofit community and finds it deeply rewarding to share the stories that make our nonprofit partners and the donors that support them so special. When she isn’t on Campus\, Arielle and her husband find themselves attempting to keep their daughter from eating the dog’s food and their dogs from eating human food while planning their next outdoor adventure. \nThere will be no charge to participate in the program\, but to help offset the chapter’s loss of canceling our in-person programming\, we’ll be accepting donations of any size to our Locally Grown Campaign\, which directly supports our scholarship program.
